Positive aging – grace and good planning

Images of youth and beauty abound in the media. In a society pre-occupied with staying young, the process of ageing is presented as a battle to try and win! But let’s face it, ageing is the one thing no person can avoid and all people have in common. You can’t turn back the clock and you only get one life. You may as well live every phase of it to the full.

The more accepting you are about your own ageing, the more you can look upon it as an adventure rather than a defeat. Second Half Success is all about celebrating the process of positive ageing, so you’re in the right place.

Goal setting after retirement

The one thing you can plan to create in your retirement years is time. You can’t make more of it, but you can use it in a more flexible and personal way than when you are working full time. Positive ageing is all about exploring what will give you the most fulfillment.

If you know you are someone who likes to keep busy, have some fun making up a list of projects. They may be domestic – that native garden you always wanted to create. They may be social – joining a book club, sporting club or volunteer group. They may even be fantastic – trekking the Himalayas or writing that novel you’ve had in your head for years.

Looking within

Planning for retirement is also the perfect time for reflection and introspection. Second Half Success consultations, information and guidance all include a focus on positive ageing, personal growth, relationships and looking after your ‘self’.

You are the only person who really knows what you need. Retirement years can be incredibly rewarding as you can take the time, energy and focus you are accustomed to spending on others (be it in the work place or at home) and spend some of it on yourself.

Living well and enjoying life

Imagine your self living well, enjoying the present day and planning with confidence about a continuing happy future.
