Phase 2 of your second half
According to Gene Cohen in the Mature Mind (2005) the first phase is mid-life evaluation. The second phase Cohen calls the liberation phase, a time when you feel a drive to experiment, innovate, and free yourself from earlier inhibitions or limitations. This liberation phase may overlap the mid-life evaluation phase in your fifties but really takes a hold as you move into your 60s and 70s. During this phase, your brain is undergoing significant physiological changes, including the ‘sprouting’ of new connections between brain cells and a more balanced use of the two brain hemispheres. This is a time when people express the sense of, ‘If not now, when?’ Are you experiencing this phase? Would you care to share your own experiences of the journey you are on?
