The positive power of the aging brain
Extensive research is being conducted into how the mind continues to grow and flourish, well into our second half of life. Gene Cohen wrote persuasively in The Mature Mind. He states that, contrary to long-held beliefs that our brain power inevitably declines as we age, there are actually positive changes taking place. The brain has the capacity to remodel itself. The brain can recruit areas of itself underused earlier, to add to our reserves of strength and agility. It is when we are 60-80 years of age that our brain achieves its greatest density and connection. We can, if we want to, learn, grow, love and experience profound happiness in our later years. Is this true for you now?
