Aging’s transitions and successful strategies
How are you coping as you grow older? As we have written about earlier, you are likely to more emotionally stable and find happiness as you grow older. So what do you do to manage and thrive as you age? A number of strategies are proposed here. Consider your strengths, what you like to do and are successful at. These strengths may have been with you from childhood; more likely, some have developed from adversity that you have overcome. Maintain a positive attitude towards aging and be mindful of negative stereotypes. Understand that these types exist and that society may not be used to assertive and forthright older generations. Remember that optimistic people tend to live longer. Looking on the bright side keeps you focussed on possibilities. Live your lives with purpose and meaning by engaging with others and focus on the future. Employ other strategies such as humour, humility and even compromise. Keeping peace and ease with family and friends may provide longer term mental health than tackling everything in sight.
