Have you been working for most of your adult life and how finding the prospect of retiring not very interesting? Or perhaps you are facing redundancy or termination due to factors outside your control? Many baby boomers are in for a rude awakening about approaching retirement age. Many want to keep working, knowing that they likely will live into their 80s and 90s, stay healthier than previous generations and need more cash to keep paying the bills. However, keeping working may be difficult to achieve. Jobs and scarce and many employers aren’t willing to hire older workers. Boomers who do lands jobs often must settle for ones that are less fulfilling than wanted. Of course there are many success stories also. A communications salesman retired at the beginning of one year and by the end of that year had found new employment. He said he needed to be around people rather than being alone. Generally people who have been in charge for a long time will not be happy to just sit, to disappear from their communities. What are you planning for your transition?
