How to age gainfully
The 21 st century ‘hot’ issue is that people are living longer, according to insurance actuaries and health professionals. With control of infant mortality, better medical outcomes and healthy nutrition it is estimated that babies born in 2011 will live until they are 100. In living longer will you be living well? Will your current lifestyle of good health, employment and active living continue as you live longer? You know that retirement is a word that should itself be retired – people approaching the traditional ‘retirement’ age may now be looking at new careers, new interests and new engagements to take them into their future. You may consider staying at work but it will be on your own terms – certainly fewer hours per week and even less responsibility. Seeking financial stability for this next period will be important. Complement your ageing plan with thinking about what will you do. In the future what will bring you meaning and purpose in the next 20 years ?
