Phase 2 of your second half
Gene Cohen in his masterful work, The Mature Mind published in 2005, states that the first phase is a mid-life evaluation. The second phase Cohen calls the liberation phase. This is a time when you feel a drive to experiment, innovate and free yourself from earlier inhibitions or limitations. The phase may overlap the first, mid-life evaluation phase in your 50s. However liberation really takes a hold as you move into your 60s and 70s. Your brain in undergoing significant physiological changes, including the ‘sprouting’ of new connections between brain cells and a more balance use of the two brain hemispheres. This is a time when people express the sense of, ‘If not now, when?’ For some of you, it may coincide with your stopping work full-time, or easing from the career that you invest many hours in. Please share you own experiences of this phase, on the journey you are on.
